Extended opening hours
We recognise that sometimes it is not easy to see us during working hours.
Extended access service
The aim of the service is to offer a greater range of appointments for routine problems. The types of problems that can be seen by the extended access service are similar to those that can be pre-booked during normal working hours.
This service is for routine medical conditions and is not an emergency service. The service is limited where doctors will be restricted in their physical examination of patients, and scope to arrange investigation. (This is because of the absence of practice nursing/ treatment room services and lab service back-up which the Scottish Government has decided not to fund).
Patients will therefore not be able to have blood tests, smear tests or an intimate examination requiring assistance from a chaperone, any chronic disease management review, or dressings or ear syringing, but will have to return for a day-time appointment if these services are required. Young children and the elderly who require to be brought to the surgery by working family members will also be welcome to these appointments.
If you become unwell after 6pm please call NHS 24 as usual – 111.
Extended access booking
Appointments to see the doctor for working patients who find it difficult to attend surgery within working hours are available every week. Please call the surgery on 0141 201 5111 for more information.
Please remember an appointment is for one person only and you should attend on time.

Home visits
In cases of major injury or critical condition, it may be more appropriate to go directly to your local casualty department. If an ambulance is required, dial 999.
The safest form of face to face clinical assessment is in the practice. Home visits, whilst convenient for patients, actually offer a poorer standard of care compared to surgery consultations. This is because of:
- Poor facilities (e.g. poor lighting, lack of hygiene)
- Lack of records and chaperones (required for safe care and examination)
The practice equipment and building is designed to deliver good, safe care. We would kindly ask any patient who is mobile (including using a walking aid, wheelchair or scooter) to see us in the surgery, even if they feel unwell.
Our GP practice is also keen that we make the best use of our clinical staff allowing them to provide the most appropriate care to those most in need. For the vast majority of patients attending an appointment at the surgery is the best option for them and for the practice staff. Attending a surgery allows our clinical team to see many more patients in a day than if we are undertaking home visits. A doctor could see 4 to 6 other equally needy patients in the time it takes for a home visit.
- Doctors are only able to consider home visits for medical reasons only
- If you think you qualify for a home visit, please ring the practice on 0141 201 5111 before 10am
- All visits requested will be medically assessed to check if appropriate
- The GP will always phone first, ensure you leave a current mobile number to be contacted on
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
